Four buildings named at Univ North

The College is pleased to announce another important milestone relating to Univ North, the naming of a number of buildings within the development. As the project enters its final stages, the naming of these buildings reflects and recognises the generosity and commitment of four key contributors to Univ North.

Buildings named Univ North - Frederick House

Frederick House

The building that was originally named Walnut Lawn Villa has been renamed Frederick House. In addition to student bedrooms, Frederick House will also be Ä¢¹½tv to the student café and features a wooden pergola that was constructed using green oak from the College’s woodland and provides cover for the outdoor seating area.

The adjacent lawned area has been named Frederick Quad and, once fully landscaped, will offer an open green space between Frederick House, Fairfield House and Banbury Road Villa. Frederick House and Frederick Quad have been named in honour of the lead benefactor of the Univ North Development, Dr David Frederick (1983, Politics).

The naming of buildings at Univ North will also recognise two Univ Masters who were instrumental in the project’s development and execution. Water Court West will now be known as Crewe House, after former Master, Sir Ivor Crewe, whose commitment to establishing a new College site and community was fundamental in driving the project forward from its inception through to key planning stages. Water Court East has been named Amos House, after current Master, Baroness Valerie Amos. Baroness Amos, who followed Sir Ivor Crewe as Master of the College in 2020, has overseen the project through its physical development, from breaking ground to welcoming students into the finished buildings.

Buildings named Univ North - Booth Pavilion

Univ North will also honour Dr David Booth (1950, Physics), the second largest donor to the development, by unveiling Woodstock Pavilion as Booth Pavilion. The newly constructed building featuring 14 study bedrooms will honour both the late Dr David Booth and members of his family.

More than 600 donors contributed to the Univ North development, which was designed by award-winning architects and developed by contractors . Through the renovation of existing properties and the construction of thoughtfully designed buildings, the development adds 123 new study bedrooms to the College’s accommodation offering as well as a 54-place nursery for children. The Univ North development enables the College to accommodate all second-year undergraduate students in one location with the added benefits of a café and gym as well as multiple study and meeting spaces.
