College News
Winner of the Frank Marshall Prize 2026
The College is delighted to announce the winner of theÌýFrankÌýMarshallÌýInstrumentalÌýPrize, 2026 as Lucy Baker (2025, History and Politics). Lucy, who plays the viola, wins a £500 prize which will go towards her extra-curricular music study.Ìý She will also perform a short recital in the Master’s Lodgings on 29 May 2026. Read more here.
Royal Astronomical Society Award
Professor Paula Koelemeijer, a former Junior Research Fellow at Univ (2015-2018) who is now a Tutorial Fellow at Exeter College, has been announced as this year’s recipient of the Royal Astronomical Society’s Fowler Award for Geophysics for early career achievement. Read more here.
Town and Gown 2026 entries
On Sunday 10 May, Univ will be entering a College team to take part in the Oxford Town and Gown 10k. The award-winning event takes place on a flat and scenic route around the city centre and University Parks.ÌýRead more here.
British Thoracic Society President’s Award 2025
Professor Najib M Rahman (1994, Medicine), Supernumerary Fellow in Medicine and Clinical Tutor in Medicine at Univ; Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Oxford and Director of the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit, has been awarded the British Thoracic Society (BTS) President’s Award.ÌýRead more here.
Hong Kong Reception 2026
Members of the College community attended a reception in Hong Kong hosted by the Master, Baroness Valerie Amos, during her trip to Hong Kong and Singapore in January 2026. Univ Telethon Callers 2026
The Development, Communications and Alumni Relations Office at Univ is recruiting student callers for the annual Telethon, which takes place between 22 June and 6 July 2026 at the end of Trinity term.ÌýRead more here.
New lift improves access to the WCR
A new lift has been installed at the College’sÌýMitchell Building, providingÌýgreater accessibility to the upper floor of the building, which housesÌýthe Weir Common Room (WCR).ÌýRead more here.
Mendl-Schrama Prize in Music 2026
This year’s Mendl-Schrama Prize in Music was held on 31 January in the Holywell Music Room. The winner of this year’s £1000 prize is Ben Gilchrist, a baritone from The Queen’s College. Univ supplied three candidates, Teresa Yu (soprano), Edison Fu (piano) and Max Rozenfeld (baritone), all of whom acquitted themselves well in this very strong field.ÌýRead more here.

Strings and Cosmology meeting
Noelia Sánchez González (2023, DPhil Theoretical Physics) gave an account of attending a three-day conference at the Theoretical Physics Laboratory of Annecy (LAPth) This trip was funded by the Old Members’ Trust Graduate Conference and Academic Travel Fund. Read more here.
Aerothermal Research at NASA JPL
Claudio Rapisarda (2023, DPhil Engineering Science) has written about his experience of completing a research placement at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory embedded within the Guidance, Navigation and Control and Entry, Descent and Landing groups. This trip was funded by the Graduate Research Training Fund. Read more here.
